Summer High School Internship Opportunity (Deadline June 15th)
NORCAL is piloting a High school internship program this coming summer to engage high school players in supporting the league and local club activities. This program aims to help players' paths to gaining volunteer/internship hours and create initiatives to drive youth ice hockey awareness. Yes, this is an off-ice initiative.
What’s involved?
- This internship is unpaid, and at the end of the 6-week program, they will receive a reference letter for their great work and for their college resume from NORCAL
The internship is a six-week summer program. Students are required to attend set sessions and expect 3-5 hours of independent work per week.
- Each intern would work through a project that involves developing a strategy for their own club related to creating awareness of youth ice hockey in their community, with measurable outcomes
- Throughout the internship, the Outreach & Engagement coordinator will hold office hours as well as live video sessions for interns to get to know each other, brainstorm, and ultimately report out on their proposal and recommendations
- The final product will be a video presentation by each intern to share their 5-minute presentation of their strategy
Key Dates & Logistics
The deadline to email to opt into participation is June 15th. Both the High school player and at least one parent must email.
Internship Start date: July 7th until Aug 9th
Session 1 - Introductions: Wed, July 9th, 7:00 pm (45 min video call)
Session 2 - Brainstorming/Working Session: Sat July 26th, 10am (45 min video call)
Session 3 - In-person presentations: Sat, Aug 9th 10am (2 hours)
Office hours: weekly, Thurs 8-9 pm via appointment
Each intern will receive an email with all the details and what’s expected at each session. We will encourage interns to collaborate offline. Most importantly, have some fun off the ice!
