CAHA Point of Emphasis Letter – 2025-2026 Tryouts and New Rules/Policies Adherence

From Thomas Hancock, President, California Amateur Hockey Association:
To: All CAHA Member Club Presidents, Club Registrars and Prospective Players;

This letter shall serve to provide clear communication to our membership at large as to significant changes that became effective starting with the 2025-2026 season. The enforcement and oversight of the implementation of these new rules/policies starts at the Club level, beginning with Tryouts. Failure to properly prepare and execute enforcement of the same may result in supplemental disciplinary action being taken against a Club team, or even a Club as a whole, and any prospective player that falsifies documentation to improperly identify their family’s State of California recognized Permanent Residence location for the purpose of trying out for a team not in their designated district and do not possess a CAHA approved waiver, will similarly be subject to supplemental disciplinary action that at the extreme could result in said player not being eligible for travel hockey for the 2025-2026 season.

Player Districting
It is the responsibility of the respective Clubs holding tryouts to verify via California State government issued identification as to the permanent residence location of each and every prospective player seeking to tryout for a Club’s travel team (Youth and Girls, and all levels of Play, Tier 1 & 2, A/BB/B). As voted in by the CAHA Board, player districting restrictions became effective with the 2025-2026 season, and notwithstanding an approved waiver from CAHA, players will be required to play for Clubs/teams in a specific geographic area based upon the established legal residency of their custodial parent(s)/guardian.

- Players whose permanent residence is in Inyo, Kern, Los Angeles, Mono, Orange, Riverside, Santa Barbara, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, or Ventura Counties, those players may tryout for ANY SCAHA based Club team EXCEPT those located within San Diego or Imperial Counties

- Players whose permanent residence is in San Diego or Imperial Counties may ONLY tryout for SCAHA based Club teams located within that district

- For players whose permanent residence is in any County NORTH of Inyo, Kern, Mono, or San Luis Obispo Counties, those players may ONLY tryout for ANY NORCAL based Club team.

CAHA Anti-Bullying & Inclusivity Training

c. Club Registrars ARE NOT to roster any player without first verifying that the subject player has in fact completed the requisite AB&I training.

Sincerely,
